The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is the nodal public organization liable for directing Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax and Narcotics in India. The Customs and Central Excise division was set up in the year 1855 by the then British Governor General of India, to oversee customs laws in India and assortment of import obligations/land income. It is one of the most established government branches of India. The Board is the managerial expert for its subordinate associations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and Central GST Commissionerates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory. Currently the Customs and Central Excise/GST department comes under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
